Mexican Food in Japan at Tacuba in Osaka

Welcome to day 3 of our Kansai Bikepacking trip. We started with our ride from Nagoya to Kyoto and earlier this morning we rode our bikes from Kyoto to Osaka. We were pretty hungry from all of our cycling the last few days and we decided to spoil ourselves with something different tonight.

Normally when people come to Osaka, they eat tako-yaki or okonomiyaki, but we eat both of those foods fairly regularly so we decided to get something different that we can’t eat in our home in Nagoya..

I recently introduced my (Vietnamese) wife to Mexican food for the first time by cooking her tacos and she fell in love, so we decided to try out a nearby Mexican food restaurant here in Osaka, Japan.

The place we ended up going to, Tacuba, stood out to me because it resembled the (healthy-ish) fast food chains in the US like Chipotle and Q’doba, which do not exist in Japan. I really missed this type of food since it is usually cheap and full of high energy foods for athletes and cyclists, and I thought my wife might like to try it.

It ended up being a bit pricier than what you pay in the US, at about $40 for the two of us with drinks and chips and guacamole. But considering I haven’t been able to eat this kind of food in forever, it was totally worth it. The taste was pretty spot on to what you’d expect, and my wife loved it.
