We arrived in Vung Tau (Vietnam) last night, and were excited for the warmer weather and a full day of exploring the area. We decided to get around by bicycle today to check out our nearby area, and then rent scooters the next day to see some attractions that were more further away.
The bikes cost us less than $3 each to rent for the entire day, and we were able to ride around to most of the main attractions. Some big stops of the day include riding along the beach and coastline, climbing up a mountain to see a giant Jesus statue, eating a ridiculous amount of pizza, beach time, and the night market to get some fresh seafood.
This giant jesus statue is HUGE!
You can also enter for free, but you need to climb up quite a long spiral staircase barefoot (they make you take off your shoes when you enter).
There’s also a tiny little whole you need to crawl through to get to the overlook on Jesus’ shoulders.
But the view of Vung Tao’s coastline and beach is quite amazing from the top and well worth the small hike up the mountain and stairs.
Food Time
We hadn’t yet eaten today and were starting to get really hungry, so after finishing up at the Jesus statue, we climbed back down and continued our cycling trip around the peninsula. Fortunately, we quickly found an area with a lot of restaurants and were quickly drawn in by a dancing pizza mascot..
We obviously couldn’t resist a dancing pizza, so pizza it was! It was also Thuong’s first time eating Hawaiian pizza, and she quickly became a fan 🙂
Beach Time
We continued on with our cycling loop and after finishing we decided to go to the nearby beach. Being able to wear a speedo after coming from the cold Japanese winter was a pretty awesome feeling, but maybe not the best idea after demolishing a large size pizza.
Cheap Seafood Time
For dinner, we went back out to the local outdoor food market to get some awesome cheap seafood.
Everything was so reasonably priced, and the weather was absolutely fantastic for December. One of the best nights of the trip so far!
